  1. How do I check my home e-mails at work or while on vacation?

We recommend using the webmail link on the home page at USAtek.net.

You can access that link through any Internet conneciton while at work on on vacation. This way, you can read the messages, but still have them available for download to your permanent mail program when you get home later in the day.

Otherwise, you'd have to create a second personality in your work mail client and download them there. But once that happens, you won't be able to download them again at home.

Use your full e-mail address and associated password to log in.

  2. I am no longer able to open attachments in OUTLOOK EXPRESS. The message that comes up in the attachment box says "OE removed access to the following unsafe attachments in your mail".
This is likely a result of some security update from Miscrosoft. Here's how to get around it:

Open the mail program and then go to menu TOOLS --> OPTIONS and click the Security tab. Uncheck the box that is next to "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus." Then click Apply and then OK.

That should take care of that problem. Just be sure you have updated virus and spybot protection software on your system to prevent other problems from happening.

  3. I am not sure my mail program works. How can I test it?
    (a) Send an e-mail to yourself. This tests the full send-delivery loop from your system, up to our servers, into your mailbox, and then back down to your system.

    (b) Go to USAtek.net and go to the HELP area for configuration instructions for different e-mail programs.

    (c) An easier way to configure or reconfigure your e-mail, if you use one of Microdoft's mail programs, is to go to the MY ACCOUNT link on our home page and log in with your dial-up username and password. On the left side, there will be an area for setup files.

Click on the link for "Email" and select the e-mail address that you want to configure from the dropdown list and your Windows version. Type in the password that is associated with the e-mail address.

Follow the directions for downloading the command file to your desktop, and when it is there, double-click on it to run the program. It will set up your e-mail program for you.

  4. I get a few e-mails that are SPAM. Should I unsubscribe from them as directed in the message?
There are things you should do and some things you should not do.

    (a) Reveal the headers in the e-mail message and paste them into a new message to spamblock@usatek.net. We will use that information to block the sender.

    (b) Never e-mail or respond to any links in e-mail messages that say you can unsubscribe. They can take that response, with your now-verified e-mail address, and sell if off to others, which results in you getting more unsolicited e-mails.

    (c) Typically, if you do not respond to any unsubscribe links, and continue to forward messages to us, we can usually get things to go back down to a much more livable level in a few weeks. If you have tried to opt out and are now getting many unwanted e-mails, seriously consider changing your e-mail address to one from or 70+ other domains and starting fresh, without ever trying to unsubscribe from SPAM mails in the future.

  5. I have received an e-mail stating that a virus was found in an e-mail from me to someone I don't even know. What's going on?
You are the victim of what's called a "joe-job" - A spam run forged to appear as though it came from an innocent party, who is then generally flooded by the bounces. Someone, or some program, sent out messages with you, the victim, in the reply address. Unfortunately, this type of thing has been going on since about 1996. The only thing you can do is delete the messages and hope they, or the spam program, stop using your address soon. Don't respond to any of the links or messages as that can make things worse. All mail systems will see these as valid messages and pass them through to you.

  6. I understand that as your customer I may have several e-mail addresses. I would like a separate e-mail for my wife. How can this be arranged?
There are over 70 domains to choose from and you can see them by going to our home page at USAtek.net and clicking on the MY ACCOUNT link (top right) and logging in with your dial-up username and password.

On the left is a link for setting up a new e-mail address. There you will find many addresses, concerning sports, local towns and areas and religious, etc. Follow through the steps presented to create the new mail account.

If you use Outlook Express, it will even help you set things up by creating a download INS file that if double-clicked will set up the new account in your mail program for you. We also have help pages for other mail programs under HELP PAGES on our home page.

  7. I've been trying to set up Outlook Express' mail program and I keep getting "The connection to the server has failed... Protocol: POP3, Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes" What's wrong?
You are trying to make an encrpytped connection to our mail servers. In Outlook Express, go to TOOLS --> ACCOUNTS, click on the MAIL tab, click on the mail account name and then click PROPERTIES. Click on the SERVERS tab and make sure there is no check in front of "Log on using Secure Password Authentication".

  8. Messages I send say simply "From: Dan". How do I change this?

If you are using Outlook Express, go to TOOLS --> ACCOUNTS, click on the MAIL tab, click on your mail account (if there is more than one in there) and then click the PROPERTIES button. PROPERTIES opens to the GENERAL tab. Make the name change in this window to control how it appears on outgoing messages and how others see it. Once you make the desired changes, click OK and then click on Close to close the account window. This will save the changes for you.

  9. What should I do if an individual [not on the USAtek.net network] sends me e-mail and it is rejected?
Please have the person forward the error message they are receiving to psnipm@hotmail.com. The error message says exactly what is happening so we need to see it before we can fix the problem.

  10. Why do I get disconnected when I check my e-mail?
If you are using Outlook Express, you can fix it by clicking on "Tools" in the toolbar, then "Options", then select "Connections". Then remove the check mark on the second line down which is "Hang up after sending & receiving". This normally fixes the problem.

  11. Why do I keep getting getting old mail which after I delete, it keeps coming back?
If you are using Outlook Express, go to TOOLS --> ACCOUNTS, click on the MAIL tab, click on your mail account (if there is more than one in there) and then click the PROPERTIES button. Then click on the ADVANCED tab and look at the bottom of the window to be sure that there is NOT a check mark in front of "Leave a copy of messages on the server". If there is, uncheck it, please. This similar fix in all mail programs usually fixes that problem.

  12. You have spelled my last name on my e-mail account incorrectly-it shows up when I send e-mail. Can I correct this, or do have to?
This is on your local system in the e-mail configuration section. Please do this...

In outlook express, go to TOOLS --> ACCOUNTS, click on the MAIL tab, then click on PROPERTIES on the right and look for the misspelling. It's likely on the first screen, but if you have to, check each of the TAB buttons across the top of the open window to see if you can find it. It will be there somewhere. Once you find it, apply the change and click ok for each of the windows to back out and exit the configuration area.

  13. You keep talking about mail headers. What do they look like?
Here is a typeical mail header, and it shows what to include if you should receive a SPAM message that you want to submit to spamblock@USAtek.net for blockage.
