1) Using a system that can access the net (the one that you used to send your e-mail, for example), go to our home page at USAtek.net and click on the HELP PAGES link at the top. On the page that comes up, click on the apprpriate WINDOWS link in the CONNECTING TO THE INTERNET section at the top. Follow the directions being sure you use the correct username and password for your dial-up account. This will create a program which when run will reset your dialer to the proper configuration.
2) Instead of, or in addition to, the instructions above, go to the MY ACCOUNT link, also on the home page, and log in there. Click on the DIAL-UP link under SET-UP FILES which will create a setup file. Save that file to a floppy and take it to the other computer and run the program there.
First, in a situation like this, dial the modem number using your regular house phone handset to see if you get the same result.
(a) If you hear a modem squeal, then you are having a problem with the modem on your PC. Continue below.
(b) If you get the same voice error, please wait 15 minutes before trying again, then call us to see if we have a resolution timeframe. By then we should have feedback from the telephone company.
It's possible the dialer could have been corrupted. In this particular case, the user got on the net from some other computer. If you can get to our home page click the HELP PAGES link at the top. Pick the operating system that you are using and it will show you how to recreate a new dialer. Follow those steps and see if that helps.
1) Connect to your modem locally by using the URL http://192.168.254.254/ and logging in with the username and password. This is normally admin and admin.
(If you don't want your children to find this later and go in and turn off the blocking, you will need to change the password to something you will not forget. Otherwise to gain access in the future, you will need to reset the modem to its factory defaults.)
2) Click on Setup on the left.
3) Click on Firewall.
4) Next click on Filter Rules.
5) Click the button Add New IP Filter Rule.
6) Put the number "1" in the Rule No. box, set the Access to Deny from the drop down list and the Direction to Outbound. Click on the Next>> button.
7) Set the Source Network Interface to any WAN Interface and put a bullet in front of Any IP Interface.
8) Set the Destination Network Interface to any WAN Interface and put a bullet in front of Any IP Interface.
9) Click on the Next>> button.
10) Set the Select by Name to TCP and click on the Next>> button.
11) Set the Source Port Operator to any (the ports to the right can be left blank) and set the Destination Port Operator to equal to with Port 1 and Port 2 both set to 80. Click on the Next>> button.
You should now see a table showing Outbound IP Filter Rules with the values in the columes as 1, E, deny, TCP, any WAN Interface, any, any, any, any WAN Interface, any, any, = 80, no. Click the Finish button.
If you are going to change the password, click on "Admin User" under the Setup menu on the left and put your new password in the "New Password" and "Confirm Password" boxes. Then click the Save Settings button and finally close that browser window.
Note: with the proxy enabled in your browser, you may not be able to get to the 192.168.254.254 address unless you either put the above address in the exclusion list, or turn off the proxy while programming the Speedstream.
Only on extremely rare occasions are real web sites found on the Oingo servers. It is a fake search engine with many inappropriate links in an attempt to drive traffic to select servers to make money from user searches. Pages invariably come up with this....
This Site Is Under Construction. Search These Related Topics...
The oingo.com servers are heavily blocked due to the amount of porn servers that oingo allows to run, and which frequently show up as a result of searches that end up on their pages. Our best advice is to use well known search engines and should you end up at a page that is blocked that contains the oingo.com domain, to just be aware that the servers are a front and no useful information is normally found there. We will, of course, continue to check any request for unblock.
This is usually the result of a change in your IP address. We only allow certain addresses access to our filtered server, and when your IP address changes, it falls outside of the allowed ranges.
All we need to know is the IP address that you now have from your provider. We update our tables to remove the old information and grant access to the new IP.
All you need to do at that point is send an e-mail message to support@usatek.net from an e-mail program on your local PC, like Outlook Express, Eudora, Apple Mail, etc. (not from a Yahoo web mail account) so that we can pull your current IP from the header of the message. (If you send from Yahoo, we'll have no way of telling what IP address you have locally.)
The other way is to run the program 'ipconfig' or winipcfg' on your local PC and find the IP address assigned to the PPPoE interface, and then you can e-mail us that if you are sure of what you are doing.
Make sure you set up the filtering proxy in Internet Explorer (or other browser) as follows:
For DSL and Cable connecitons: Go to the Control Panel (in Windows XP, make sure you switch to Classic View at the top left). Open Internet Options and then go to the Connections TAB. Click LAN Settings at the bottom and make sure there is a check on the "Use a Proxy Server for your LAN" box. Then click the ADVANCED... button and put "proxy.usatek.net" with a port of "8080" in the boxes to the right of HTTP. The other boxes on the page for Secure, FTP, etc. should all be blank.
For modem connections: Go to the Control Panel (in Windows XP, make sure you switch to Classic View at the top left). Open Internet Options and then go to the Connections TAB. Click on the dialer in the "Dial-up and VPN settings" area and click on Settings... Put a check in the "Use a Proxy Server for this connecction" box. Then click the ADVANCED... button and put "proxy.usatek.net" with a port of "8080" in the boxes to the right of HTTP. The other boxes on the page for Secure, FTP, etc. should all be blank.
We recommend using the webmail link on the home page at USAtek.net.
You can access that link through any Internet conneciton while at work on on vacation. This way, you can read the messages, but still have them available for download to your permanent mail program when you get home later in the day.
Otherwise, you'd have to create a second personality in your work mail client and download them there. But once that happens, you won't be able to download them again at home.
Use your full e-mail address and associated password to log in.
Open the mail program and then go to menu TOOLS --> OPTIONS and click the Security tab. Uncheck the box that is next to "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus." Then click Apply and then OK.
That should take care of that problem. Just be sure you have updated virus and spybot protection software on your system to prevent other problems from happening.
(b) Go to USAtek.net and go to the HELP area for configuration instructions for different e-mail programs.
(c) An easier way to configure or reconfigure your e-mail, if you use one of Microdoft's mail programs, is to go to the MY ACCOUNT link on our home page and log in with your dial-up username and password. On the left side, there will be an area for setup files.
Click on the link for "Email" and select the e-mail address that you want to configure from the dropdown list and your Windows version. Type in the password that is associated with the e-mail address.
Follow the directions for downloading the command file to your desktop, and when it is there, double-click on it to run the program. It will set up your e-mail program for you.
(a) Reveal the headers in the e-mail message and paste them into a new message to spamblock@usatek.net. We will use that information to block the sender.
(b) Never e-mail or respond to any links in e-mail messages that say you can unsubscribe. They can take that response, with your now-verified e-mail address, and sell if off to others, which results in you getting more unsolicited e-mails.
(c) Typically, if you do not respond to any unsubscribe links, and continue to forward messages to us, we can usually get things to go back down to a much more livable level in a few weeks. If you have tried to opt out and are now getting many unwanted e-mails, seriously consider changing your e-mail address to one from or 70+ other domains and starting fresh, without ever trying to unsubscribe from SPAM mails in the future.
On the left is a link for setting up a new e-mail address. There you will find many addresses, concerning sports, local towns and areas and religious, etc. Follow through the steps presented to create the new mail account.
If you use Outlook Express, it will even help you set things up by creating a download INS file that if double-clicked will set up the new account in your mail program for you. We also have help pages for other mail programs under HELP PAGES on our home page.
If you are using Outlook Express, go to TOOLS --> ACCOUNTS, click on the MAIL tab, click on your mail account (if there is more than one in there) and then click the PROPERTIES button. PROPERTIES opens to the GENERAL tab. Make the name change in this window to control how it appears on outgoing messages and how others see it. Once you make the desired changes, click OK and then click on Close to close the account window. This will save the changes for you.
In outlook express, go to TOOLS --> ACCOUNTS, click on the MAIL tab, then click on PROPERTIES on the right and look for the misspelling. It's likely on the first screen, but if you have to, check each of the TAB buttons across the top of the open window to see if you can find it. It will be there somewhere. Once you find it, apply the change and click ok for each of the windows to back out and exit the configuration area.

If you have Windows XP, then following often works.
Go to START and click on Run...
Type the command "cmd" in the Open box and click OK. Then type in the following commandsas shown.
netshThen reboot your system and see if this fixes the problem.
This sure sounds like you have been infected by spybots.
Here is the solution that USAtek has been recommending, which is truly a free program. We do encourage our users to support the developer, but that is entirely your decision and doesn't effect the operation of the program. Here are full steps to run the program. Also, please be sure that if you do not have a virus protection program (which is different than the Spybot Search & Destroy program) you should get one and keep its definitions updated. You should also consider using Avast! Anti-Virus (the free home edition) if you don't use another anti-virus program.
1) Download: start by clicking the Freeware link. Find and click on the Spybot Search & Destroy program there and then click the SAVE button and save it in either a Download folder for future use should you need to reinstall, or on the Desktop (where you can later move 'spybotsd' to a storage folder). When the download completes, click the OPEN button.
2) Installation: if the installation program hasn't started, double-click on the program downloaded in (1) above. Click OK and/or NEXT after picking the display language. Read the welcome instructions and then click NEXT to get to the license agreement area. Click 'I ACCEPT' than NEXT. Click NEXT for all following questions and then click INSTALL and FINISH as asked. (Allow the program to start automatically as the installation is finished.)
3) Running the Program: in the Task Bar to the right of the START button, there will be a new icon in the Quickstart bar (you may have to widen the area by pressing and dragging on the right divider bar so that you can see it). As you move the mouse over the icons, the program name will appear. When you want to start the program in the future, find this new icon, click on it and wait for the program to start.
NOTE: ANY TIME YOU RUN SPYBOT SEARCH AND DESTROY, PLEASE BE SURE YOU HAVE FIRST CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET BEFORE STARTING THE PROGRAM. This will enable the program to search for and automatically download any updates with minimal intervention.
3) For the "Legal stuff" prompt, read the information and then check the "Don't show this message again" if you want, and then click OK.
4) Initial Setup: Create the registry backup when prompted or click Next to skip it. When ready click NEXT to continue. Make sure you are still connected to the Internet and click the SEARCH FOR UPDATES button. Then click DOWNLOAD ALL AVAILABLE UPDATES button to retrieve them. When the Update Progress window is done, continue by clicking the NEXT button. Click the IMMUNIZE THIS SYSTEM button and then click NEXT. Finally, we recommend you read the tuturial and the help file, then you can start using the program.
5) All users should complete this step. Click on the Mode menu and then select Advanced mode. Click YES on the warning message. On the left pane, click on Settings. After that menu has expanded, click the Settings link that appears just below File Sets. In the right pane, scroll down to the "System start" section. We recommend the following items be enabled/checked: AUTOMATICALLY RUN PROGRAM AT SYSTEM STARTUP, RUN CHECK ON PROGRAM START, FIX ALL PROBLEMS ON PROGRAM START.
Next, in the "Web update" section, check SEARCH THE WEB FOR NEW VERSIONS AT EACH PROGRAM START and DOWNLOAD UPDATED INCLUDE FILES IF AVAILABLE ONLINE.
6) Complete this step ONLY if you are a filtered (Family Safe) customer, otherwise skip to Step 7. In the 'Web update' section, put a check in the 'Use proxy to connect to update server' box. Put proxy.usatek.net in the Host field and 8080 in the Port field. If you are an external customer not using USAtek dialup or other direct high speed connection, put your assigned user name and password in the Authentication section after checking the "Proxy server needs login..." box. Then click OK.
7) In the left pane, click 'Spybot S&D' at the top then exit the program.
Close your web browser window and all other windows if any are still open. At this time, if you saved the original download on your Desktop, we recommend you drag the file 'spybotsd' (which is the installer program) to some other storage folder like "My Downloads" if you have one.
8) Start the program using the Quickstart icon, or the program link in the START menu. Let the program run its tests fix any problems. If the program does not start running a check on over 35,000 items, click the "Check for Problems" button. When it is all done, quit the program.
9) Tutorial: If you get stuck, or for a more detailed explanation of how things work, go to the program HELP menu and take the tutorial.
This did not come from us. We never sign generic names to e-mails and we only send attachments if we verbally tell you so during a phone conversation. These viruses are getting very crafty.
What is likely to happen is that it will appear that you can't open the attached file and your mail program will start sending emails.
If you have a virus program, make sure the definitions are up to date and do a thorough scan. If your subscription is expired you'll have to renew it. This is critical for PCs (Macintoshes are immune to these types of viruses and spybots.) If you don't have a virus program, use the free Avast! Anit-Virus downloadable from our Freeware page.
As a short term solution run the virus check from Symantec found here.
You should also scan for Spybots. Read the FAQ on how to do this under Viruses/Spybots.
Go to our home page at USAtek.net and click on the VIRUS NEWS link. It will display information from both Symantec and McAfee.
FTP to www.usatek.net and log in with your connection username and password, not your email account name. Then change to the public_html directory and put your files in there.
Be aware that this is an Apache Unix web server and there are no frontpage extensions installed for use (we have chosen not to support them for the general user accounts due to security concerns with Microsoft software - so don't use them). Not using the FrontPage extensions actually makes your site more portable and less dependent on the type of server you need to serve your pages on.
Easy. Go to http://usatek.net/ and click on the [My Account] button.
- Log in with your full username (i.e. 'username@usatek.net') and the password.
Click on the [Setup Web Page] link under Services on the left.
- Put your password in the password box and click the [connect] button.
- Click on either the public_html directory, or if you have a domain name registered and set up here, its name in the left box and click the [Enter Directory] button.
Click the [Choose File] button near the bottom of the page, and find one of the files to be uploaded and select it.
- Click the [Upload this:] button to put the file up in that directory.
- Repeat this last process for any additional files.
When done, simply close the window!
FTP to www.usatek.net and log in with your connection username and password, not your email account name. Then change to the directory with the same name as your hosted domain, and put your files in there.
NOTE: Be aware that by deafult, the server is an Apache Unix web server and there are no Frontpage extensions installed for use (we have chosen not to support them for the general user accounts due to security concerns with Microsoft software - so don't use them). Not using the FrontPage extensions actually makes your site more portable and less dependent on the type of server you need to serve your pages on.
Generally speaking, most web development programs have their own built-in upload function. This is normally an FTP program of some type and there are only a few pieces of information you need to set up the process. You will need the onnection username and password (this may be different than your email account name). For the host system, use your domain name without the www in front of it. For the destination directory also use the domain name without the www in front of it. Your software should allow you to test the setup to confirm your settings.
If you do not have an FTP program, you can download a free package from our Freeware link on our home page. You can also use the upload feature available in the My Account section after you have logged in there.
You can design your site using any of the 'good' programs out there, like Adobe GoLive and Adobe Dreamweaver. You can try to use FrontPage, but we seriously don't recommend that program as its files are notorious for only displaying well in Internet Explorer, and there is a large and growing number of people using Firefox out of security concerns with the Internet Explorer web browser. There are many other browsers out there as well, such as Safari for the Macintosh platform.
There are some free programs out there, just search Dogpile.com or Google for free web development programs. We just haven't tested them to say how well they work.
